Profile for the press.

The Crafts Museum Ovelgönne is a museum of cultural history with a focus on folk culture, situated in the heart of the Wesermarsch. It is dedicated to the material culture and craft history of the region, combining historical collections with contemporary educational formats. Historical craft techniques, tools and everyday objects are not viewed as mere artefacts but are always researched and communicated in the context of the people who made or used them.

Since its founding in 1981, the museum (supported by the Heimat- und Kulturverein Ovelgönne e.V.) has been housed in a historic town house dating from 1773. Particularly since 2000, the institution has developed from a local history collection into a scientifically researching institution that understands craftsmanship, everyday culture and regional identity as an inseparable whole. A modern annex provides space for rotating special exhibitions.

Among the museum's defining features are the interactive Time Wheel (a multimedia experience station exploring the history of the Municipality Ovelgönne) and its status as the only cooperation museum in the Wesermarsch with the University of Oldenburg: as a practice-oriented learning lab and teaching museum, the Crafts Museum gives master's students in Museum and Exhibition studies genuine professional experience in day-to-day museum work. The museum also runs its own 3D digitisation department, maintains an extensive archive of everyday and craft history, offers a digital exhibition guide, and presents a modern, barrier-free website. A broad education programme for schools and groups rounds out the profile.

"The Crafts Museum Ovelgönne is far more than a window onto the past. We consistently place the people behind material culture at the centre of what we do. By understanding objects not in isolation but as part of an inseparable whole of craftsmanship, everyday life and regional identity, we transform a silent archive into a living place of tangible history."

Arman Džaferagić, Museum Director, released for editorial use
