Scientific Museum Director

Arman
Džaferagić

Scientific Museum Director of the Crafts Museum Ovelgönne. 3D digitisation, modern collection management and contemporary cultural mediation.

Shaping an open institution.

Arman Džaferagić is a trained conservator and restorer (M.A.) specialising in preventive conservation and digital heritage preservation, and Scientific Museum Director of the Crafts Museum Ovelgönne in the District Wesermarsch. Since 2022 he has been driving the museum's digital transformation and modernisation. Key milestones include establishing an in-house 3D digitisation department in 2023 and contributing to the development of a bespoke database for metadata management of the approximately 11,500 collection objects.

He studied at the University of Sarajevo and at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HAWK) in Hildesheim. During this period he gained extensive practical experience in international projects with UNESCO and Cultural Heritage without Borders, as well as at the National Museum and the Historical Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina. His Master's thesis, produced within a DFG-funded project, explored the possibilities of digital reconstruction of historic wall paintings.

Since 2023, Arman Džaferagić has been a doctoral researcher in a joint programme between Carl von Ossietzky University Oldenburg and the German Maritime Museum / Leibniz Institute for Maritime History in Bremerhaven. His research critically examines digital techniques for safeguarding cultural heritage, focusing on the ethics of 3D digitisation, resource scarcity and the democratisation of technology in the cultural sector. Alongside his doctorate he teaches at the University of Oldenburg and leads the Practical Days, a collaborative project between the museum and the university.

What makes working at the Crafts Museum Ovelgönne so special is the people: a dedicated team of paid staff and volunteers, and a supporting association that has poured its heart into this place for decades, inspiring us every single day to keep developing it as a modern, open space for everyone.
