On 17 May 2026 there was real excitement at the Crafts Museum Ovelgönne. A beautiful Sunday, many wonderful encounters, living craftsmanship and one very special debut.
Visitors that day could do more than just look – they could experience: at the forge, the bread oven, the drinks stand and the activity table. That is exactly what we believe a museum should be.
Welcome, Sönke!
The absolute highlight was the debut of our new volunteer blacksmith Sönke at the historic museum forge. He gave an impressive demonstration of what real blacksmithing means, captivating children and adults alike. Particularly wonderful: he took time for the youngest visitors and worked alongside them at the anvil. We are delighted to have Sönke on our team. A very warm welcome!
Baking the Old Way
Board member Uwe Karger fired up the historic museum bread oven and prepared fresh bread together with our visitors. Anyone who had brought their own dough could bake it directly in the oven. The aroma in the museum garden was wonderful. A big thank you to Uwe Karger for this hard-working contribution!
Drinks, Grill and Museum Stone
Board member Uwe Lehmann kept visitors refreshed at the drinks stand with fresh butter cake, grilled sausages, coffee and cold drinks. Our digitalisation and social media coordinator Halim was busy at the activity table: he invited visitors to design their own museum stones and at the same time filmed video reports for our Instagram channel. Many visitors left their mark. If you would still like to join in, the activity runs all year round!
