Where Your
Story Begins.
Experience your civil ceremony in one of the most beautiful historic buildings in the Wesermarsch region. An intimate, authentic and unforgettable setting for your most important day.
Not a registry office like any other. A listed heritage building from 1773 that has been waiting for you.
Not the usual registry room.
But yours.
The Handwerksmuseum Ovelgönne is a registered heritage monument and an officially licensed civil wedding venue. Getting married here means no waiting room, no ticket number. Instead, a place with soul, history and a garden that invites you to linger.
Two very different rooms speak to different personalities: from romantic-Biedermeier to raw and artisanal. Both are genuine.
Find the room that
speaks to you.
Venue 01
The Singer's Room.
On the upper floor of the historic main building lies the Singer's Room, named after the men's choral society that once sang in Ovelgönne. Historic wooden floors, exposed beams and a view over the ancient heart of the village create an atmosphere you cannot buy anywhere else.
- Style: Biedermeier warmth, intimate and deeply welcoming. Ideal for small, meaningful gatherings
- Capacity: Perfect for couples who want a handful of the people who matter most
- Access: Located on the 1st floor, reachable by historic staircase: not step-free
Venue 02
The Old Smithy.
Here the saying "Every person is the smith of their own fortune" becomes reality. With its open rafters, historic forge and heavy tools, the smithy breathes the history of generations of genuine craft. This raw, unvarnished setting makes it one of the most remarkable and distinctive ceremony venues in Lower Saxony.
- Style: Rustic, raw, authentic. For couples who want nothing cliched
- Highlight: Ceremony directly at the historic anvil is possible
- Access: Level access and step-free: accessible for all
Why the Handwerksmuseum
is the right place for you.
Not an off-the-shelf venue. A listed building from 1773, full of history and character, giving your ceremony something no other couple has.
Historic facade, enchanting garden, dark floorboards, rustic smithy: every corner is worth a photograph. Your wedding pictures will not look like anyone else's.
We are not a high-volume operation. One couple per date. We take our time and shape the setting to your wishes, without haste and without pressure.
Directly behind the historic main building lies the museum garden: perfect for a champagne reception, beautiful group photographs and the first quiet moments as a couple.
The garden as
a natural stage.
When you step outside after your vows, a small green oasis in the heart of the historic village of Ovelgönne greets you. Among the impressive open-air exhibits and the old museum bakehouse, you will find the ideal space for a relaxed champagne reception. Our historic seating nook provides a wonderful backdrop for photographs or a quiet moment alone together.
In summer the garden can also be used for brief outdoor ceremonies. Please speak to us about this.

From first idea to the big day: here is how it works with us.
Come and let the rooms speak for themselves. Simply arrange a no-obligation appointment and we will show you everything in peace.
Agree your preferred date and we will reserve it. We block the day exclusively for you and your guests.
The official notice of marriage is given at the Ovelgönne registry office. Please arrange an appointment there in parallel with us.
On the day itself we take care of the setting. You focus on each other, your love and the people around you.
What you want to know.
What couples say about us.
We didn't want a run-of-the-mill registry ceremony. The Singer's Room was exactly what we had been looking for. Warm, genuine and with an atmosphere you cannot buy anywhere.
The smithy was a genuine surprise for our guests. "You got married in a smithy?!" – Yes! And it was the best thing we could have chosen.
The garden afterwards, the champagne reception among historic machinery, the photos in front of the old facade, it was like a film! We are so glad we found this place.
