Closing days & winter break

We are closed on Easter Sunday, at Christmas and on New Year's Eve, as well as during the Pferdemarkt (horse fair, first weekend in September). From 17 December until the beginning of February we take a winter break. From the first Sunday in February we are open to visitors again. The office is also staffed during the winter break. Current notices can be found under News or directly by calling us.

Outside regular opening hours, visits and guided tours are available by appointment, including on weekdays. Just give us a call.

Group tours

Our volunteer museum experts guide your group through the exhibition with real knowledge and real stories from the region. A lively exchange rather than a lecture. Tours are held in German, or on request in English or Low German. Larger groups are very welcome too: they are guided in groups of 15 people each. Please book at least two weeks in advance.

Kindergarten & School

History is best learned with your hands. Children do not just look, they join in, try things out and marvel: with an age-appropriate tour, creative hands-on activities and a museum rally. Accompanying adults enter free of charge.

Opening & admission

We are open every Sunday from 14:00 to 18:00; last admission is at 17:30. Outside these hours, visits and guided tours are possible by appointment, including on weekdays. The office is staffed Tuesday to Friday from 09:00 to 12:00.
Yes, cyclists and cycling groups are very welcome. The Weser cycle path runs along the left bank of the Weser via Lemwerder, Berne and Elsfleth to Brake, from where it is about 6 km to Ovelgönne. It is about 32 km from Oldenburg, about 55 km from Bremen and about 40 km from Bremerhaven. You will find all routes under “Directions”, tab “By bike”. For groups we offer a guided tour on request.
Adults pay €3.00. Reduced admission (€1.00) applies to children and pupils, students and trainees, people with a severe disability (degree of disability 50 or more) and refugees. Admission is free for members of the supporting association, MVNB and ICOM members, and press representatives. We accept cash; card payments are unfortunately not yet possible.

Getting here & access

Yes. Free parking spaces are available directly at the museum and on Breite Straße. There are also coach parking areas nearby.
The ground floor and outbuildings are wheelchair accessible. Unfortunately, no lift is yet available for the historic upper floor. An accessible toilet is available. We are working on digital alternatives to make all areas reachable. If you have questions about accessibility, please call us in advance.
Dogs are unfortunately not allowed in the exhibition rooms, because many rooms in our historic house are very narrow. Assistance dogs are of course always welcome, and so are small dogs that you can carry. On the outdoor grounds, all dogs on a leash are warmly welcome.

In the museum

There is a small cloakroom at the entrance. Large bags and rucksacks can be left free of charge at reception. Lockers are not available.
For a relaxed tour through all the exhibition rooms, allow 60 to 90 minutes. With a booked guided tour it usually takes 90 minutes. Last admission is at 17:30.
Yes, for personal use – without flash and without a tripod. We are very happy about photos on social media. For commercial photography, please contact us in advance.
We do not have our own café. However, you will find restaurants and cafés nearby in the historic village centre of Ovelgönne. In the entrance area we have a small museum shop with regional products and souvenirs.
Yes. Small QR codes throughout the exhibition let you access deeper information about selected objects on your smartphone – free of charge and without downloading an app. Our media guide is a voluntary in-house project that we develop and expand ourselves – independently of external providers.

Guided tours

Yes, we offer guided group tours. The flat rate is €25.00 for groups of up to 15 persons, plus regular admission per person. For larger groups, an additional €25.00 applies for each further group of up to 15 persons. A guided tour takes approximately 90 minutes. Tours are held in German; on request, also in Low German (Plattdeutsch). Please register in advance at office@handwerksmuseum-ovelgoenne.de or by telephone.
